City-County Health District is offering a cholesterol screening on Thursday, July 25 from 7-9 AM.
“In 15 minutes, you can learn your 10-year cardiac risk. With a fingerprick and a few questions, we can help you understand your risk of heart disease or stroke” states Kerry Due, Director of Nursing at City-County Health District.
Did you know that high cholesterol doesn't have any symptoms? Many people don't know their levels are high. The only way to know whether you have high cholesterol is to get your cholesterol checked through a blood test. Your test results will show your cholesterol levels. Total cholesterol and HDL (good) cholesterol are among numerous factors your health care professional can use to predict your lifetime or 10-year risk for a heart attack or stroke. Your provider will also consider other risk factors, such as age, family history, smoking status, diabetes and high blood pressure.
Tests can also find signs of high blood glucose (sugar) levels, which are important to check as nearly 1 in 2 adults have prediabetes or diabetes.
Test results used to take days to be processed by a lab. Now, City-County Health District can offer fast and accurate blood tests with a simple fingerprick test. Results will be available before you are done with your appointment, and you’ll know what your next best action is so that you can live your healthiest life.
City-County Health District offers cholesterol screenings. All adults age 20 or older should have their cholesterol and other risk factors checked. Tests are $40. For best results, we recommend that you pre-book this appointment so that you can fast for the cholesterol screening. When you take no food or drink 8 to 12 hours prior to the screening, you can have a better understanding of your fasting cholesterol results. However, if you’re pressed for time, non-fasting results can also provide you with results to help you understand your next best action. Remember, our goal is to help you live your healthiest life.
Mark your calendars for our next community screening event, scheduled for Thursday, July 25 from 7-9 AM. If you can’t make it to our screening event, call for an in-office appointment. Don't miss this opportunity to take charge of your health. Book your appointment now by calling 845-8518.
