Respiratory Season: Flu, COVID-19 and RSV Vaccines

Now is the time to prepare for respiratory season! Vaccines offer the best protection for influenza, COVID-19 and RSV.
 

  • Influenza vaccine: City-County Health District recommends individuals 6 month and older receive their annual flu vaccine. High dose influenza vaccine is recommended for those 65 years of age and older. Influenza is a contagious disease that spreads worldwide, usually between October and May. Anyone can get the flu. It takes two weeks for protection to develop after vaccination and protection lasts all season. Now is the time to prepare for respiratory season - start with your influenza vaccine.

  • COVID-19: City-County Health District recommends individuals 6 months and older receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Most people over 6 months old are eligible for the vaccine series or a booster. The COVID-19 vaccine significantly reduces the risk of serve COVID-19.

  • RSV vaccine: City-County Health District recommends individuals 60 years and older receive the RSV vaccine. The RSV vaccine protects against severe disease by over 80%. Now is the time to prepare for respiratory season - if you are 60 years and older, the RSV vaccine will be available in the CCHD office, call today to learn more.

    • RSV vaccines are available for infants and pregnant women. Contact your healthcare provider for more information.

Where can I get my vaccines?

  • City-County Health District. Appointments are encouraged but walk-ins are accepted.

  • Respiratory Season Clinics. CCHD will be at a location near you. Avoid the construction downtown and get vaccinated at a respiratory season clinic.

  • Local clinics and pharmacies.

  • If patient is homebound, CCHD can come to your home! Call 845-8518 to arrange a visit.

  • What does the 2023-24 influenza vaccine protect me against?

    • Virus A, Wisconsin and Darwin

    • Virus B, Austria

    • Strain B, Phuket

  • Can I get the influenza vaccine if I have an egg allergy?

    • Yes, current recommendations starting fall 2023 advise all persons with an egg allergy to receive the influenza vaccine.

  • Is there a vaccine that includes influenza, COVID-19 and RSV?

    • No combination vaccine is available for the 2023-2024 respiratory season.

  • What insurance companies are accepted at City-County Health District?

    • Most insurance policies are accepted. However, Medishare, United Health Care, Tricare (a Veteran's Affairs supplement), Sanford True, and out of state private insurances (ie, BCBS of Arizona) are not accepted. For any questions, contact CCHD at 701-845-8518. Insurance information will be verified prior to vaccination.

  • What should I do if I am uninsured and want a flu vaccine?

    • CCHD can still help you! Guidance will be provided upon registration.

  • Can I get more than one vaccine during my appointment?

    • Absolutely! It is safe to get the flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines on the same day.

Respiratory Season

School Immunization Requirements in North Dakota

Students who are not up to date 30 days after school has started will be excluded from school until they receive all required vaccines.

City-County Health District can help you meet the requirements. We offer all school-required vaccinations at our public health office in Valley City.

Required & Recommended Vaccines

Kindergarten

​Required Vaccines:

  • 2 doses of Measles, Mumps, and Rubella Vaccine (MMR)

  • 5 doses of Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis Vaccine (DTap)

  • 4 doses of Polio Vaccine

  • 3 doses of Hepatitis B Vaccine

  • 2 doses of Varicella Vaccine (Chicken Pox)

Recommended Vaccine:

  • 2 doses of Coronavirus Vaccine (COVID-19), available for children ages 5 and older

  • 2 doses of Hepatitis A Vaccine
     

7th Grade

​Required Vaccines:

  • 1 dose of Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis Vaccine (TDaP)

  • 1st dose of Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV4)

Recommended Vaccines:

  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccine

  • 2 doses of Coronavirus Vaccine (COVID-19)

 

11th Grade

​Required Vaccine:

  • 2nd dose of Meningococcal Conjugate Vaccine (MCV4)

Recommended Vaccines:

  • Meningococcal B Vaccine (MenB)

  • 2 doses of Coronavirus Vaccine (COVID-19)
