City-County Health District (CCHD) has been notified of a confirmed measles case in a Williams County resident who briefly stopped in Valley City while traveling home. The individual visited the Marathon gas station, locally known as PetroServ or the old Hilltop location. The public exposure period has been identified as Monday, June 30th from 7:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. There are no known cases in Barnes County, and no ongoing risk of exposure has been identified.

“This was a brief exposure,” said Katie Beyer, Administrator for City-County Health District. “We’re sharing this information to keep the public informed and to encourage anyone with questions about symptoms or vaccinations to take the right next steps.”

Exposed persons who were already vaccinated against measles or born before 1957 are considered protected. Because most North Dakotans are vaccinated against measles, the risk to the vaccinated general public is low.

Any unvaccinated individuals who were at the gas station during that time should monitor for symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, or rash. If symptoms develop or if you are unsure about your vaccination status, call your healthcare provider before going to the clinic, or reach out to City-County Health at 701-845-8518 for guidance and vaccine access.
