Summary of Nursing Services

Nurses are available to see clients for the following services during regular office hours (no appointment necessary unless indicated):

  • Health Assessments including
    • Blood Pressure
    • Blood Sugar Testing
    • Hemoglobin Testing
    • Vital Sign Monitoring
    • Height and Weight
    • Ear checks (infection, wax)
  • TB (tuberculosis) Testing
  • Lipid profile (cholesterol)
  • Foot-care clinics
  • Immunizations
  • Medication monitoring and setup
  • Therapeutic purposes by Doctor's order (i.e. dressing changes, suture removal, catheter care, etc)
  • Allergy Injections with a doctors order
  • Lice Checks
  • Rash Assessments

Homes:

Public health home visits are scheduled by appointment which is limited to once per week per client.  All ages are eligible for home visitations, newborn to elderly. Clients may receive home visitations by an RN for the following services:

  • Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respiration monitoring
  • Blood Sugar Testing
  • Medication Set Up and Monitoring
  • Foot Care
  • Pro Time Testing
  • Weight Monitoring
  • Other Nursing Services by Doctor Orders

Home clients meet a minimum of two of the following criteria:

  • Limited mobility without assistance
  • Visual handicap
  • Dementia
  • Dexterity problems
  • Inability to complete task without supervision
  • Unstable medical condition
  • Physician order

Referrals can be made by:

  • Clients themselves or Family Members
  • Physicians, Nurses, Other Health Care Providers
  • Schools, Social Workers, Other Agencies, or Concerned Citizens

Special Programs

1.  Newborn Follow-Up

City-County Health District contacts all mothers who deliver at Jamestown Hospital by phone and/or home visitation to offer health information and counseling regarding normal and/or abnormal happenings postpartum and for the newborn.

2.  Car Seat Program

City-County offers car seat education and car seats to families.  Parents must review video information prior to receiving a car seat.  Available car seats include infant, toddler, and booster seats.  A minimal donation is requested for the car seats.  No loan program for car seats is available.

3.  Injury Prevention Programs

City-County conducts bicycle safety programs, safety information for latch-key children, and buckle-up (seat belt) safety information.
